Energy usage on TV production sets.

To understand energy consumption of the production sets and identify opportunities to right size site power supply and reduce carbon emissions.

How did we help?

Our Erica, energy management system was used with the unit base generator and monitored energy usage in the artists trailers such as makeup, costume and catering trailers. The TV productions were filmed during Spring to Autumn and a battery unit was trialled with the generator and the energy usages were monitored and analysed.

Learnings from 6 TV production sets.

Average unit base generator size = 100KVA

Average consumption = 14KVA

Quick wins

Understand your consumption & consider mains power.

Can you switch off at night or at weekend?

Can you use the Erica schedular to put the trailers on timers?

Our analysis of results and recommendations.

Choosing the right solution for the production sets, would be a combination of Hybrid Solution: Generator & Battery Storage Unit.

Another solution for the production sets which would be right sizing the generators, and switching to a smaller generator.

Turning off generators at weekends

Half of the productions turned off generators at the weekends making further fuel & carbon savings.

Savings if 100KVA generator is turned off over the weekend.
